Advance Overall Rating (New York City’s teacher development and evaluation system)

The New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) utilizes the Advance Overall Rating system to evaluate the performance of teachers. This system comprises Measures of Teacher Practice (MOTP) and Measures of Student Learning (MOSL). The overall rating is determined by the Overall Rating Matrix with ratings of Highly Effective, Effective, Developing, or Ineffective (HEDI). For details about this system, see . Further information about the teacher evaluation system in NYC is available at the  page on the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) website.

Every year, the EPP at CUNY College of Staten Island receives de-identified Overall Rating scores (HEDI Scores) disaggregated by program, evaluation year, and graduation year from the NYCDOE through the City University of New York (CUNY) Department of Education. The data below reflects the 2023-2024 reporting year.

Stakeholder Input

Teacher Education Advisory Council (TEAC)

The Teacher Education Advisory Council (TEAC) at the College of Staten Island meets two times per academic year. Led by the Dean of Education, this committee promotes mutual collaboration and transparency through the sharing of accreditation reports and data analysis results including enrollment data, certification exam data, and completer and employer satisfaction data with the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Physics, Science, Letters and Society (SLS) and World Languages.

Teacher Certification Exams

The tables below show the pass rates for EPP Completers for the certification exams required for NY State Teacher Certification. If a candidate took an exam more than once only the best attempt is included in the results. The data is disaggregated by Licensure Area and academic year of program completion. NOTE: Exams are not required for completers.

EAS (Educating All Students)

EAS is required in New York State for all initial teacher certifications. In the past 3 academic years completers of College of Staten Island/CUNY programs who attempted the exam have had an average 94% pass rate on the EAS exam.
